High Density Polyethylene Pipes PE 80 and PE 100 for the transport and distribution of gas, water, from dia. 20 mm to dia. 400 mm according to UNI EN 1555, UNI EN 12201, UNI ISO 4437.
RGS manufactures high density polyethylene pipes, 100% virgin raw materials PE 100 and PE 80, for the
transport of natural gas according to UNI EN 1555 standard and Italian D.M. dated
16/04/2008, and for the transport and distribution of potable water and other fluids according
to UNI EN 12201, to the sanitary and hygienic prescription of Health Italian Ministry
D.M. 174 dated 06/04/2004, to the guidelines of the Italian Plastic institute (IIP) and
according to the EN1622 norm for the determination of the odor and taste threshold. Upon commissioned order,
we can manufacture pipes in PE100-RC and rifled pipes for optical fibers.
RGS has two extrusion lines manufacturing PE pipes and rolls, with advanced technology, sizes from 20 mm to
400 mm up to PN25, and uses strictly high quality raw material transplanting in this productions the process
management, the traceability and Quality systems developed in the Oil & Gas Industry as a
reference.

XMeaning of MRS and Durability
MRS (Minimum Required Strength after 50 years) is the minimum tensile strength required to the pipe after 50 years in exercise. So, “PE 80” means MRS=8.0 MPa and “PE100”means MRS=10.0 MPa.
But why the need to define a resistance through time? The reason is that polyethylene gets old in the sense that, while enduring pressure, it reduces its resistance properties in time because of the viscoelastic effect and due to the action of oxygen.
Through accelerated ageing tests, graphs called regression curves are obtained, showing the resistance of the pipe versus time and thus, the service life of the pipeline in PE 80 or PE 100 (which is the service life at 20° C in which the expected resistance stays higher than the MRS value).
PE 100 100% virgin pellets produced with modern technologies, combined with a careful and controlled extrusion of the pipe, grant the pipe a service life largely exceeding the expected 50 years, reaching an expected service life of 100 years.
On the other hand, recycled polyethylene, extruded many times over, sum up ageing and the stresses of the former extrusions, reducing the service life to unpredictable values and depending from the material history. The guarantee of the HDPE service life relies on the guarantee of the raw material and the management of the production process.
